5 THINGS I WISH I KNEW BEFORE THE PANDEMIC HIT

A couple of days ago I was thinking about how the pandemic has impacted all our lives from the way we live, travel, eat, socialise and even work. No one could have imagined in their wildest dreams that our lives would take a complete turn around overnight.

The pandemic was a tough time to get through for many different reasons. Even though we are, slowly but progressively, moving towards getting out of the pandemic, there are certain things I wish I knew before it had hit us. I have grown and learned A LOT of valuable lessons during these times. I have rounded up a list of five key lessons I wish I knew because even though these points specifically talk about my learnings from the pandemic, I strongly believe these points remain extremely valid and can prove to be helpful even post-pandemic. So here I am sharing them with you in hopes of it being helpful to you.

  • TAKING CARE OF YOURSELF IS IMPORTANT

The internet generation has glorified being “overworked” to a level that it is considered unacceptable if the work doesn’t take up a major chunk of our time/day. Even though work is important but taking care of our mental and physical health should always be our priority. I have made it a point to always take time out to nurture and nourish my body and take care of my health no matter how busy my schedule is. After all, the pandemic has proven the age-old saying ‘Health is Wealth’ to be true.

  • NEVER STOP WORKING ON BETTERING YOURSELF

The economy has been the worst-hit sector and for that reason, the job market has become highly competitive. The opportunities are low and the competition is cut-throat. The pandemic has shaped the job markets in such a way that having additional skills is paramount. A basic college degree does not suffice anymore. The only way forward is through bettering ourselves every single day. Investing in learning new skills or self-development will not only help you to stay ahead in the game but also ensures career success. Fortunately, to our benefit, there are millions of courses available online for you to choose from.

  • IT IS NEVER TOO EARLY OR TOO LATE TO START SAVING MONEY

I believe the money-saving lesson has been one valuable lesson that everyone has learnt during this time. Saving money is very important. There are many financial advisors who are providing free education on how to save and safely invest your money online. Do your research and start saving. Trust me, your future self with thank you.

  • DO NOT WAIT FOR THE RIGHT TIME

The right time is NOW! Do not wait around to take that step that you have been contemplating for a long time. Want to learn how to dance? DO IT NOW! Want to switch your job? APPLY NOW! Want to propose to your soulmate? WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? Make a move and just do it. It might feel terrifying and nerve-wracking but you cannot let that stop you from moving forward and living your life.

  • TAKE IT EASY, BE GRATEFUL AND HAVE FUN

Nothing is worth losing your mental peace over. Life can be hard but you need to learn to take one day at a time. Be grateful for everything that you have. Have as much fun as you can. Do not let stress and worry take charge of your life. We do not know what the future holds for us so let’s live to make the most out of our days.

I can go on with more lessons that I have learnt from my journey through pandemic but I will stop at five. Tell me your key takeaways from the last one and a half years. What have you learnt? I would love to know your insights and perspective.
